Punjab recorded a 70 per cent reduction in farm fires this season, said Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian here on Saturday. Punjab reported 10,909 stubble-burning incidents from September 15 to November 30 this year, compared to 36,663 such incidents in the corresponding period last year. The significant reduction in farm fires can be attributed to increased mechanisation in the agricultural sector, he said in a statement here. Gurmeet Singh Khuddian said 22,582 sanction letters were issued to farmers for subsidised crop residue management machines, with 16,125 machines being procured. Lauding farmers for the decline in the number of farm fires, he said, "It's our collective responsibility to save the environment for our future generations. At least 40 people have been injured in a cylinder blast that occurred at a 'chaat' stall in Chhattarpur, Madhya Pradesh on Sunday, officials said. Two senior forest officials of Madhya Pradesh have been suspended for alleged negligence in their duties after the death of 10 elephants at the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve.  Assistant Forest Conservator Fateh Singh Ninama and Field Director Gaurav Chaudhary were removed from their posts due to failures in leadership and vigilance.  The suspensions come after several allegations, including delayed response times and a lack of oversight to critical incidents involving elephant welfare in the reserve. Field Director Gaurav Chaudhary faced suspension for failing to return from leave when informed about the elephant deaths. Mr Ninama was accused of failing to take proactive measures despite previous elephant sightings.  Last year also three employees from the tiger reserve were suspended -- Officer Shil Sindhu Shrivastava and Forest Guards Kamla Prasad Kol and Pushpendranath Mishra. The Indian Army successfully neutralised two terrorists in the general area of Halkan Gali in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag in a significant counter-terrorism operation, a defence spokesperson said today. Acting on specific intelligence, security forces had been tracking the terror group's activities for over a month, the spokesperson said. These terrorists were responsible for multiple attacks, including the targeting of Rifleman Hilal Ahmad Bhat of 162 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) on October 8 and previous incidents in Halan, Bijbiara and Shangus. The security forces saw suspicious movement at 11.45 am on Saturday and challenged the terrorists, who opened fire. "Our forces effectively retaliated, neutralising both terrorists.
