Rs 1 lakh will be given to the person providing information about his whereabouts, Pune Police Commissioner has announced. A 26-year-old woman was allegedly raped inside a state transport bus at the Swargate bus station, which is one of the largest bus depots of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), in Pune on Tuesday. The 37-year-old accused, a resident of Gunat village in Pune, is named in half a dozen cases of theft, robbery and chain-snatching in Pune and Ahilyanagar district. The operation to rescue eight labourers trapped inside Telangana's Srisailam Left Bank Canal or SLBC tunnel is in its final stages said state Irrigation & Civil Supplies Minister Capt. N Uttam Kumar Reddy. The rescue, he said, will be completed within two days. For this last stretch, Indian Marine Commando Force (MARCOS) and the Border Roads Organisation have been roped in, the minister said. A two-year-old tigress that strayed into a village in the buffer zone of Dudhwa Tiger Reserve and attacked two people was killed allegedly by villagers on Wednesday, officials said. In a separate incident, a tiger was killed in a road accident that took place under the Mailani range of the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve (DTR), they said. In the first incident, the angry villagers of Phulwaria clubbed the tigress to death on the spot. Saureesh Sahai, the Dudhwa Buffer Zone deputy director, said forest officials retrieved the carcass from the village in the Palia tehsil and sent it to the range headquarters. A driver from Himachal Pradesh was killed and 17 pilgrims were injured when a bus returning from Mata Vaishno Devi shrine skidded off the road and plunged into a 30-feet gorge near Jammu on Saturday evening, officials said. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed grief over the accident and praised the rescue teams and officials for their prompt and commendable effort. The bus, bearing registration number UK-07PA-5640, was on its way to Delhi and the accident took place near Manda, nearly eight kilometres from the Jammu bus stand, the officials said. Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Friday said his government was planning to amend the liquor prohibition law, which has been in force since May 2019, to allow the sale of wine and beer in the state. During a discussion on the motion of thanks on the governor's address in the assembly, Lalduhoma said his government had no intention of lifting the ban on hard liquor but was planning to regulate the sale of wine and beer. He said that a bill to amend the prohibition law will be introduced in the assembly during the ongoing budget session. A three-year-old boy from Rajasthan died after falling into a garbage pit at a cafeteria near the domestic terminal of Cochin airport on Friday. The boy, identified as Rithan Jaju, son of Sourabh, was playing in the garden outside Anna Cafe near the airport when he fell into the four-foot deep pit that had been left open for cleaning work. Rithan's family, part of a group that had come on a tour of Kerala, stopped at the cafeteria for lunch. Lakshmi, said to be the last Maoist in Karnataka, unconditionally surrendered on Sunday in front of Udupi Deputy Commissioner Vidya Kumari and Superintendent of Police Arun K. According to police, Lakshmi, who had been hiding in Andhra Pradesh, has had three cases at Amasebail and Shankaranarayana police stations in Kundapur Taluk in the Udupi district. These cases date back to 2007-2008, and they pertain to the exchange of fire with police, assault, and pushing Maoist literature in villages and small towns. Police said Lakshmi originally belonged to Thombattu of Machchattu village in Kundapura taluk. She was accompanied by the State Naxal Surrender Committee member Sripal and her husband Salim, a former Maoist who had surrendered in 2020 in Andhra Pradesh. Intelligence gathering has taken a back seat in the Union Budget 2025-26 as the Centre has reduced the flow of funds of several verticals that deal with intelligence collection and dissemination, including the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS) - the apex body for all matters concerning internal and external security. According to Notes on Demand for Grants (2025-26), Rs 182.75 crore has been allocated to NSCS in comparison to Rs 270.08 crore (revised estimate) last financial year. The budget of the Intelligence Bureau was also reduced by around Rs 100 crore. Last year, Rs 3,966 crore was allocated to the agency in the revised Budget but this year, the amount has been reduced to Rs 3,893 crore.
