 The Madhya Pradesh government outlined the liquor ban in 19 religious cities and gram panchayats of the state would be implemented from April 1. This announcement of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav was approved by the Cabinet at a meeting held in Maheshwar, the city of Lokmata Ahilyabai, on 24 January 2025. Following the recent decision, all establishments that sell alcoholic beverages, including liquor shops and bars, will be mandated to close their operations within the entire urban boundaries of several cities. This includes Ujjain, Omkareshwar, Maheshwar, Mandleshwar, Orchha, Maihar, Chitrakoot, Datia, Panna, Mandla, Multai, Mandsaur, and Amarkantak. Additionally, the closure will extend to the gram panchayat regions of Salkanpur, Kundalpur, Bandakpur, Barmankalan, Barmankhurd, and Linga. At least six persons, including three children, have been reportedly killed following a major blast at an illegal firecracker factory at Patharpratima in South 24 Parganas district in West Bengal on Monday night. As per the information available so far, the blast took place at an illegal firecracker manufacturing factory at the residence of a local resident, Chandranath Banik, at around 10 p.m. on Monday. The local people were alerted by the sound of explosions, and when they reached the spot, they saw the entire house engulfed in flames. Locals started the initial fire extinguishing operations. Later, they were joined by a huge contingent of cops from the nearby Dholahat police station as well as personnel from the state fire services department. A fresh encounter broke out in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua, and the security forces have trapped three terrorists, cordoning off the Panjthirthi area in Kathua. This is the second gun battle between the forces and terrorists in the last three days. Security forces have launched a major operation after laying out a night cordon.
